The 2-D mat consists of a three-dimensional geonet of virgin polyethylene with ribs in three directions, laminated on one side with nonwoven geotextile; the geotextile-to-core bond is at least 500 N/m. It is used for trench, blanket and gas drainage, for draining water from underground parts of buildings, tunnels and roads, at landfills and for erosion protection of slopes, where it replaces a crushed stone layer. The mat serves as a protective drainage layer, not as stand-alone waterproofing; service life is more than 50 years, rolls are 4.0–4.3 m wide.
