BentIzol® SAB L 5 bentonite mat — laminated anti-seepage liner
Bentonite mat with a laminating polyethylene film for liners in aggressive media with pH from 1 to 13; water pressure up to 7 atm.

The SB series differs from SAB in the type of clay: the BentIzol® SB 5 mat uses natural rather than activated sodium bentonite. The permeability coefficient is no more than 0.9×10⁻¹¹ m/s, static puncture resistance at least 2.0 kN, permissible hydrostatic pressure up to 7 atm. A 5 × 40 m roll weighing 1,080 kg is unrolled “black side” down in any season; the mat serves as a liner for canals, ponds, reservoirs, MSW landfills and tailings storage facilities.

|---|---|
| Type | bentonite waterproofing |
| Use | hydraulic structures and dams, tanks and pools |
| Base | geosynthetic roll material: needle-punched carrier of woven (160 µm) and nonwoven (200 µm) polypropylene with bentonite granules (natural sodium bentonite); polymer additives are not permitted |
| Packaging | roll 5 × 40 m, weight 1,080 kg; on a core in a sealed polyethylene film sleeve |
| Application method | compact the base or embankment and clear it of debris, stones and vegetation; unroll the roll with the “black side” down; longitudinal overlap at least 15 cm, transverse at least 30 cm, stagger transverse joints by at least 30 cm; spread bentonite granules evenly in the overlap, about 0.5 kg per linear m; protective cover layer at least 30 cm; laminated layer facing the more aggressive side, overlaps “mat to mat”, “film to film”; on slopes steeper than 1/4–1/5 (depending on soil type) — a cellular geogrid with anchors through the mat, sprinkle puncture points with granules; on vertical surfaces — construction stapler, fastening gun |
| Application temperature | installation in any season at any temperature |
| Key properties | bentonite content 5.0 kg/m²; mass per unit area 5,310 g/m²; permeability coefficient no more than 0.9×10⁻¹¹ m/s; flux no more than 2.0×10⁻⁹ m³/m²·s; static puncture resistance at least 2.0 kN; tensile load at least 12 (longitudinal) / 7 (transverse) kN/m; tear strength at least 400 N/m; dynamic perforation (cone drop) no more than Ø10 mm; thickness at 2 kPa 6.5 mm; flexibility down to −70 °C without damage; resistance to aggressive media pH 4–11; withstands hydrostatic pressure up to 7 atm; service from −70 to +60 °C; self-healing of punctures and cuts; unlimited service life |
